Is your coffee fair trade certified?Updated 8 months ago
Our coffee is not fair trade certified. However, this doesn’t mean that our coffee doesn’t meet fair trade qualifications, just that we cannot use the term “fair trade.”
Unfortunately “fair trade” is a certification that must be purchased and even if a farm is fair trade certified, a company cannot claim that the coffee is fair trade unless they, as the seller, also purchase a license to use the term. These certifications are very expensive for both the companies selling the products and for growers and manufacturers. There are also differences in certifications between organizations and countries that make the process extremely complex.
Our team checks labor practices of any new supplier that we are potentially partnering with. It is extremely important to us that fair labor is used in any product that we sell, which is why we prioritize working with collectives and sourcing partners whose focus is on ethical labor. We also check a supplier’s code of conduct, track record, and certifications before we partner with them.
